When people discuss projects like CCTV, alarm systems, or structured cabling, they often jump into project rollout and installations without conducting proper surveys. But many forget that the real work begins before anything is installed! And that starts with the Pre-installation site survey.
So, what exactly happens during a survey?
We step into the field with open eyes. We don’t assume the site’s simplicity or complexity; instead, we ask;
- What is the actual requirement, not what is just written?
- Will we need specialized equipment or extra cabling? Is excavation required?
- Does the client’s Bill of Quantities (BOQ) match the site’s reality?
- Are all approvals for site access granted?
- If applicable, have the necessary licenses for deployment been acquired?
- Are all utilities, e.g., power, internet/connectivity, etc., in place?
- Are all logistics in place, including the availability of local labour where necessary?
- Is there a local source of materials available if required for the project?
You’d be surprised how often we find gaps not because anyone made a mistake, but because what looks fine on paper doesn’t always work in practice.
What if the BOQ doesn’t fit?
We’ve handled many projects where the original BOQ underestimated things like cable length, number of devices, or even installation challenges. In such cases, we don’t move forward and hope for the best. We talk to the client, we walk with them through the issues, and request an addendum where needed so that you can adjust specs and adjust properly.
Why does it matter?
Because that’s what a serious team does. We plan better, so that you don’t pay for your mistakes later. We know our role isn’t just to install, it's to guide to advise, and ensure everything runs seamlessly from day one.
